Jars of Lighting Bugs

Do you remember catching lightning bugs or fireflys when you were kids?  Running around with your cousins at dusk catching as many as possible...putting 'em in jars that your grandfather punched holes in the lids...Awww, such sweet memories!!

Remember my teaser from my previous post?  A box of canning jars?

If you will look at my title, I said  "lighting" not lightning bugs!  Please read along and I will explain...

I love unusual lighting!  And I've always wanted to capture the glow of the lightning bugs in a jar!  Several months ago I found sources that featured this type of lighting.  Sooooo, what do I do but  ask  (beg, plead, no, not really, he was really excited ) the hubby to make such a light!  And I am so pleased with the results...

After purchasing the necessary tools...the hubby worked his magic!
But, oh no!  He couldn't stop there!

Catching lighting in a jar...

He used old Ball Jars for this line of lights...Some were the very old blue ones!

There are many ways to string the jars together to create the look you want...

I just love the way both look...

The lights are hung on the porch...look at that view!!

For a party I added more mason jars to light up the night!
...candlelight!

And of course I added redneck wine glasses for the party!  Again created using mason jars!  Y'all know a nice glass was needed to sip that   wine   uhh sweet tea!

And there it is... my own jars of lighting bugs...

Have you used jars in unusual ways?  I  would love to hear from you!
See ya down the junkin' road!!

Groundhog's Day Teaser

Good Morning!  Quick run outside!  Turn around!  Did you see it?
See what you ask?
Well your SHADOW of course!!

It is after all February 2, aka GROUNDHOG'S DAY!!

                                                                             (copied)
Most notorious groundhog...

Punxsutawney Phil

                                                                                 (copied)
Not to be confused with the movie of old...

                                                                              (copied)
"Punxsutawney Phil fans say that there is only one Phil (all the other groundhog weathermen are impostors), and that he has made weather prognostications for over 121 years as of 2011. They say that every summer, Phil is given a sip of the mysterious Groundhog Elixir, which magically lengthens his life for seven years. This is done by Inner Circle members.
According to the Groundhog Club, Phil, after making the prediction, speaks to the Club President in "Groundhogese", which only the current president can understand, and then his prediction is translated for the entire world"  copied

I really hope this Phil guy doesn't upset our local groundhog, Birmingham Bill! I am looking forward to an early spring since our winter has been so pleasant!

                                                                                (copied)
"Birmingham Bill, the celebrity groundhog of the Birmingham Zoo, will be making his prediction for an early Spring or 6 more weeks of winter at 10:00AM on February 2nd."

                                                                                 (copied)
"As everyone knows, if the groundhog sees its shadow, we get six more weeks of winter.  If it doesn't see a shadow, there will be an early spring.  It may not be scientific, but it sure is fun."

Well how about it?  Do y'all have a local groundhog that forecasts weather?  If not then you may absolutely claim Birmingham Bill!!  That is if he predicts the weather correctly the way you want!!

Now the teaser...

What do you think I'm working on now??

Back later for a reveal...

See ya down the junkin' road!!

Our Gully

Allow me to introduce to you our fur-baby...GULLY SHORES  aka Gully...surrounded by his angry birds!

Gully is a first generation peke-a-poo! ( pekinese and poodle mix) and he is named after one of our favorite Alabama beaches, Gulf Shores!

He joined our family this past summer. Oh what a joy he is!!

He is a traveling man!  From the bicycle, to the boat, to the car, to the truck, to the motor home, Gully is always ready to ride!

Here he is enjoying the sun in Key West!

In 2010, we lost our 17 years old shih tzu, Sassy.  Needless to say we were devastated!  We knew we could never replace her.  For many months we would not talk about another fur-baby.
Then...y'all know...it kinda sneaks up on ya...and BAM...we found Gully!!
Our little boy is demanding, mischievous, sweet, and loud! He is all ours!!

Do you have a fur-baby too?

Gully and I will see ya down the junkin' road!!

Another Movie Review

I know, I know! Another movie to blog about!! But seriously, this is one that is soooo cute!

Joyful Noise—movie review

While the hubbys were playing music we, the fabulous wives of the music making guys, decided to have a girls' night out... to watch a fun movie!

Now what can be more fun than a night out with the Queen?      Latifah that is!

Hello Dolly....Dolly Parton!

Synopsis
"The small town of Pacashau, Georgia, has fallen on hard times, but the people are counting on the Divinity Church Choir to lift their spirits by winning the National Joyful Noise Competition. The choir has always known how to sing in harmony, but the discord between its two leading ladies now threatens to tear them apart."

Combining country music and hip hop royalty... Latifah and Dolly

This was a fun time for us girls!  But as usual the reviews were mixed...from one end, "this falls flat" to the top, "the best role of Queen Latifah's life."

Now you decide!
I recommend it for a great couple of hours of laughs, a few tears, good music and just plain old fun!

See ya down the junkin' road!!

Finding Inspiration!

You never know where you will find inspiration!  I am always amazed at that...finding inspiration in some of the oddest places!  This can and will happen in all aspects of your life...but this day the inspiration came from shopping with the hubby!  I know! Can you believe it!  My hubby shops like most husbands...
know what you want,
go into the store,
locate the item,
purchase,
and out the door.
Can I have an amen?!!

But back to inspiring me...
We were shopping for fishin' stuff in one of those sports places! Y'all know what I mean...line, worms, rods, reels, etc. and the hubby became involved in all the "stuff" available sooooo I wandered off to explore....AND that's where I found the inspiration..right there on the FLOOR!

Beautiful, wide plank, rough cut, planks!! It made a wonderful floor!  Also it would look fantastic in a lake or mountain home!
No hubby peeking around to find me...so I kept exploring and found...

So many are using the antlers in their home and I thought this little lamp was so cute.  The tables were unusual too.  Look at some of the details...

So pretty, so unusual, so different!  So inspiring...

Oh, oh, there's the hubby...wait until I tell him what we can do with this pile of wood we have in the backyard!!

Wishing our #1 son a very happy birthday!!  God blessed us with a wonderful son!  We are so thankful for him and proud of him!!
See ya down the junkin' road!!
