French Style Confession Time!!

What can I say?  I love chairs!  Yep, I admit it!  I love chairs!
And lately I'm drawn to the...dare I say...French inspired!
Not only chairs but any item that resembles Frenchy!!

I know, I know...is it a sickness?  The only cure that I know requires some shopping...
( well really a lot of  LOOKIN'  ) ...a J-GRITS must have a plan!!

For example take this French Gold Chair...the fabric against the gold frame is just eye popping!!
(outthereinteriors.com)

Or this shiny white leatherette studded armchair...
(outhereinteriors.com)

Constructed in North Carolina the Cora Chair...
(softsurroundings.com)

 Check out this wonderful remake...
(wovenhome.blogspot.com)

Many of you out in blogland have restyled and reclaimed so many wonderful 'frenchy' things and this chair represents just one!   I couldn't list them all but do not fear I have looked at several!
(say hundreds, no thousands)

 Oh yeah, about my addiction...
Shopping at our local Home Goods...
(Don't y'all just love HG? As my grandfather use to say 'you could lose a crop in there',
meaning I spend way too much time in that store!)
...I found several French inspired thingys...

Notice the nailheads...
Covering a box...
And the sides...

Another side...

Well I have the inspiration.  Now to find the perfect item to restyle.  I've looked through my stash and nothing 'hits me' as the ONE! Does that mean more shopping?  Yes, I think so!

Need to stop by my local fabric store...

How about y'all?  Do you have a 'confession' to make too!!

See ya down the junkin' road!!

Carved Bench

While out junkin' with my friend we spotted this bench sitting outside a business. SREEEEEECH, TIRES SQUEALING,  ALL MANNERS OF 'HAND' WAVING, PEOPLE SHOUTING... we turned that car around and headed over to the parking space!

Now really this one is a show stopper...or in our case a car stopper!! Notice the marks...the scroll...the chippy goodness... Ahhh I just knew the perfect spot where this little jewel would look perfect!

I wanted  it to go home with me but the owner said no!  It was a great space for the husbands to sit while their wives shopped!

 Wide, comfortable, restful...

Now we're off again to look for another bench!
How about you? Have you found a 'show stopper' lately?

See ya down the junkin; road!

A Leg Man, Ya Say?

Oh yeah, LEGS on the furniture...

While antiquing with my friend we are always amazed at the "legs" on the great old pieces and always wonder how did they do that!!  Just imagine no electric tools, all done by hand...truly the work of great artisans.

The arts and crafts and mission style...the Stickley design where he thought that well designed home furnishings could help "make life better and truer by its perfect simplicity."

The "legs" not only give support to the item but also a sense of style...

The "legs" just add to the heavily decorated chest...

Sooooo the next time you are out shopping give a look at the "legs"!! And let me know your thoughts on the matter!!

Have a Blessed Day!! And see ya down the junkin' road!!

Traveling...Cypress Tree Have Knees?

While traveling on one of our many junkin' jaunts my friend and me stopped at this lovely garden with the cypress trees.

Notice the Spanish Moss draping from the limbs...

You can see the distinctive structure in the roots of the tree generally known as the knees. I don't know the true function of the knees but it's commonly thought to assist in anchoring the tree in the soft muddy soil of the swamps where they generally grow! ("sort of like a stick helps to hold up your beans", says my friend)

"What happens if the knees are cut?" I ask. "Most likely the tree will survive!", answers my friend. (one smart cookie, my friend!)

The distinctive shapes are a woodcarver's delight! I've seen carved and painted gnomes, Santas, and jack-o-lanterns! My uncle had a lamp made from a beautiful Knee! However today in many states it is illegal to harvest cypress knees...check before you cut!!

Have a Blessed Day!! And see ya down the junkin' road!!

(Have you any cypress knees or know where they are growing? Leave a comment! Thanks)
