Window Shopping...Spring and Easter

When we were young window shopping was a favorite pastime!  After Sunday church going downtown to look at the window displays was as normal as eating apple pie! (Stores were not open on Sunday afternoons, no big box stores either!)  We would take a stroll (to walk off the Sunday dinner) around the block peeking into the store windows to see what was new!

The displays were fantastic too! Alot of  pride and much thought were given to each window. No two windows were ever the same. And guess what?  The window scene changed each week!  Quite a bit of work for the employees but it did bring in the business for the following week!

Now old habits are hard to give up...my friend and me still window shop!  In the town of Columbiana several shop owners display their wares in very dressed up windows!

A big welcome...

(pardon, for the glare on the windows!)

Notice how the windows are tied together with a common theme...notice the black & white tiles...

Very pretty use of colors...

Inviting...

Love the greens...

Hope you've enjoyed your window shopping today!  Send me your comments!

Have a Blessed Day!! And see ya down the junkin' road!!

SPRING COLOR...

Good Day, y'all!! Even though the wind is blowing steadily off the water I've been able to get a lot of work (preparation for upcoming planting) accomplished!!  Whew!!  I know that we will have a few (hope, hope) more nights of cold, almost freezing temps, but I can't help but get excited about planting!!

When the stores and markets are displaying their spring wares I get excited about all the color...

I really like the old clay pots but these ceramic ones are so cute...

Are you getting excited about planting season too?

Have a Blessed Day!! And see ya down the junkin' road!!

Spring Forward in the SPRING!!

I'm sure by now you've moved your clocks forward one hour! (if not go now and do this!) It has been a beautiful day for my friend and me to laze away on the lake! Not too windy, not too cold and with the right amount of sunshine. The plants are budding with many trees in early bloom. It is a blessing to see the earth renew.

Here are some photos that my friend and me hurriedly shot snapped recently as reminders that spring is really on its way...

Although these are artificial if you add a bouquet of live flowers (you know the ones you can pick up at your local grocery) they would bring that added touch of sunshine to your home...

Looking over my own garden I am amazed that my pansies have weathered the storm of snow, sleet, wind, and rain...

And by the way, I love LOVE, LOVE the daylight savings time! It gives my friend and me more time to go junkin'!!

Have a Blessed Day!! And see ya down the junkin' road!!

A Good Day for M R Ducks!!!

Rain, Rain, Go Away, Little "Johnny" (my friend and me NEED to go junkin'!!) Wants to Play!! Even out on the lake the only living things I see are the DUCKS (m r ducks? o s m r!) and they are having a hard time staying in the water!!

I love signs and sayings. I get a KICK out of the emotions that a few choice words can trigger. The old junky discarded ones are true finds! From the hilarious to the sentimental I enjoy all of them!

My favorite ones are those based on scripture. These little tiles are great used as coasters or just "cutesy" items to give as hostess gifts.

And the CROSSES...

So many of the newly engaged couples are registering for gifts that include items which include a message...

Old and new marrieds like these...

"SIgns, SIgns EVEryWHere a SIGN..." This one is perfect for when I worked and the stress built, in my mind I would "go the beach"...

Living on the lake we compile a vast assortment of "huggies"...

These need no explanation...(my #1 son says live in a climate where flops are the norm!)

This could very possibly be my motto...

Hope you've enjoyed my tour of signs! Next time you're out shopping look for those that give you a little giggle or better yet some inspiration!

Have a Blessed Day!! And see ya down the junkin' road!!

April Showers Bring on the Flowers!

On this rainy morning in April 2010 I begin my new Blog, a southern girl's and her friend's adventures in "junkin'!" Now "southern junkin'" covers a lot of territory. The "hunt" is always on for those great buys to make our homes more comfortable, cheerier, prettier--CHIC! Of course flowers make a place all those things. And as soon as the downpour turned to sprinkles my friend & me headed out to the local landscaping supply store. Alas! Excitement turned to dismay as we realized "the truck" had not yet delivered the new shrubs and flowers we needed (not just wanted!) On the advice of another friend we drove on to Montevallo to check out "Cedar Creek." Boy, did we hit the mother-lode! We loaded the truck with ferns, vegetable plants, hydrangeas, marigolds(because my grandmother always planted marigolds as a deterrent to BUGS!), and mosquito plants (any help with those pesky rascals I need!). Another stop to pick up some bulbs, stop to eat, and it's home to plant. Ahh! Another good day of junkin'!
Have a Blessed Day!
