Plants, Plants, and More...

We need tomato plants for the garden.  We need to plant the tomatoes now!  So the junkin' road carried my friend and me to a local nursery.  We love, love, love  this place. They always have the best assortment of bedding plants, hanging pots, shrubs, vegetables; you name it!

Colorful petunias...

My grandmother always thought a house was not truly a home unless there were flowers in the yard.  Sadly I do not have the "green thumb!"  But I have taken her advice and try to plant things that require little to no maintenance!

They were unloading a truck when we arrived and the the place was packed with new plants. My friend and me wanderd around for quite sometime just ooohing and aaaahing over all they had to offer!

We had an idea of what we needed but there were soooo many pretties that we wanted Decisions, Decisions... (lightbulb going off!!)...DUH, of course we left the nursery with a truckload!

The "Kimberly Ferns" do great for me. They are able to take the heat and sun and I don't usually burn them up like I have been known to do to a "Boston Fern!"  Yep, into the truck went the 'Kimberlies'!!

These New Guinea impatiens were so colorful I couldn't make up my mind what I wanted, soooooo I came home with this color AND the prettiest salmon color.

Also into the truck went some more flowers and of course, we really didn't forget, the tomato plants!

My pansies are still very pretty since we've had some cool nights lately. And they look very pretty in the pots! (and I  really hate to pull them up when I've actually not killed them!!)  But the weather forecast for this week is summer like temps nearing 90 degrees!  I guess I will just have to replant those pots with something, ummmm... you know what that means?...another road trip to the nursery! Yea!!

Have a Blessed Day!! And see ya down the junkin' road!!

SPRING COLOR...

Good Day, y'all!! Even though the wind is blowing steadily off the water I've been able to get a lot of work (preparation for upcoming planting) accomplished!!  Whew!!  I know that we will have a few (hope, hope) more nights of cold, almost freezing temps, but I can't help but get excited about planting!!

When the stores and markets are displaying their spring wares I get excited about all the color...

I really like the old clay pots but these ceramic ones are so cute...

Are you getting excited about planting season too?

Have a Blessed Day!! And see ya down the junkin' road!!

Spring Forward in the SPRING!!

I'm sure by now you've moved your clocks forward one hour! (if not go now and do this!) It has been a beautiful day for my friend and me to laze away on the lake! Not too windy, not too cold and with the right amount of sunshine. The plants are budding with many trees in early bloom. It is a blessing to see the earth renew.

Here are some photos that my friend and me hurriedly shot snapped recently as reminders that spring is really on its way...

Although these are artificial if you add a bouquet of live flowers (you know the ones you can pick up at your local grocery) they would bring that added touch of sunshine to your home...

Looking over my own garden I am amazed that my pansies have weathered the storm of snow, sleet, wind, and rain...

And by the way, I love LOVE, LOVE the daylight savings time! It gives my friend and me more time to go junkin'!!

Have a Blessed Day!! And see ya down the junkin' road!!

April Showers Bring on the Flowers!

On this rainy morning in April 2010 I begin my new Blog, a southern girl's and her friend's adventures in "junkin'!" Now "southern junkin'" covers a lot of territory. The "hunt" is always on for those great buys to make our homes more comfortable, cheerier, prettier--CHIC! Of course flowers make a place all those things. And as soon as the downpour turned to sprinkles my friend & me headed out to the local landscaping supply store. Alas! Excitement turned to dismay as we realized "the truck" had not yet delivered the new shrubs and flowers we needed (not just wanted!) On the advice of another friend we drove on to Montevallo to check out "Cedar Creek." Boy, did we hit the mother-lode! We loaded the truck with ferns, vegetable plants, hydrangeas, marigolds(because my grandmother always planted marigolds as a deterrent to BUGS!), and mosquito plants (any help with those pesky rascals I need!). Another stop to pick up some bulbs, stop to eat, and it's home to plant. Ahh! Another good day of junkin'!
Have a Blessed Day!
