Hearts for the Luvs

We are blessed with two luvs who come to visit with us.  Our nephew is 10 years old, very intelligent, loves all sports, but especially loves...ALABAMA football!! So I will refer to him as 'Big AL' on my blog! 

His younger sister is six years old, truly a baby doll, loves all things girly, gymnastics and... The University of ALABAMA!   I'll name her 'Princess Bama' and she will wear this tiara!!

Now that you have the history lesson...our two luvs really,  REALLY love breakfast at the lake!  It is a major production!   
Seriously!!  Since they visit on weekends or vacation days,  breakfast is really more like brunch!
Y'all know what I'm talkin' about...milk, bacon, eggs, pancakes, biscuits, gravy, fruit, and on and on...

With February 14th just around the corner, I wanted this breakfast extra special....festive, with red, white, and pink with hearts!

Princess Bama loves to sit at the bar and talk while we cook!  (She tells me all the school gossip!)

Big AL, on the other hand, just wants to hurry because he knows the fish are just waiting on him to catch 'em!!

(Our lake is known for great bass fishing!)

The bar was set for two and both enjoyed their valentine breakfast...(the candy is for after fishin')

Inspired by Love, Mema's Bread

YUMMY! 

My Mema always made delicious banana bread!  It was moist, not too heavy, melt in your mouth, make you want to slap your...         sooooo good!!

 Thirty-eight+ years ago when the hubby joined the family, Mema made sure he had banana bread weekly! Yes I said weekly!!  She found out he loved her cooking and so she catered to his likes! That's right..my grandmother!!

Now you must remember I was young, a very picky-eater, not talented in the kitchen arena...did I say young!!!  The whole family was afraid that the hubby would die of starvation!  I received a cookbook per week for the entire six months of our engagement!!!  Needless to say he survived!!

My grandmother cooked without written recipes...y'all know... a little of this, a pinch of that... wonderful years of creating food masterpieces!  Masterpieces inspired by her love for family and food!
Sadly I do not have her exact recipe for banana nut bread.  However I do try!  
(I think I can, I think I can....)

Today, on the counter, just sitting there lookin' all gross, were bananas getting very ripe!  Now I was taught to use leftovers not throw them out sooooooo...What better use of the gross, over-ripe bananas than to make banana bread!

Use any from scratch recipe you like...or one of the semi-homemade recipes...

I always add nuts!  (And in the south we love our pecans!!)  So pecans were added!  This year our daughter had wonderful old pecan trees that produced an enormous amount of nuts!  So I have pecans frozen to use this year!  WhoooHooo for Daddy's Girl!!

And voila... banana nut bread...

Hubby says, "Yummmmm, just like Mema's!!"

I know!  He is sweet!  It really isn't just like Mema's but I do love that he tells me it is!! 

Do you have wonderful memories of your "GRANDS?"  Oh, if we had only been old enough, or wise enough,  to learn more from them...

Wishing my dear hubby a very happy birthday!  

As you can see from many of our projects he plays a major part in making my "hobby" a success!!  God blessed me and as my Mema would say 'he's a keeper'!!

"Ladies and Gentlemen...allow me to introduce to all...the first lady of our little town...

Miss Lucy Louise Snodgrass, great-great-great granddaughter of the illustrious General Sherman J. P. Smut, who, as the story goes, single handed rode across the county on his trusty stallion 'Takmystnd',
announcing the arrival of the scallywag pirates when they landed on the beaches of the Gulf of Mexico.   

Miss Lucy Louise is resident of Whackahatchee.

Most days you can find her walking the banks of the Whackahatchee River looking for the return of her fiancee, Commodore Winfield Julius Caddell, known for his sailing exploits around Madagascar!

Oh the pearls, pearls and more pearls... Commodore Caddell always brings home to his lovely bride-to-be, strings and strings of pearls!  Miss Lucy Louise never leaves home without at least five strands of the lovely gemstones!

Today she is dressed in vintage clothing...

with lovely lace...

and flowers for the lovely lady...

Miss Lucy Louise Snodgrass will wait for her dance card to be filled by none other than her handsome Commodore!

And then they will dance the night away at the ball hosted by..."

I hope you've enjoyed my little story!  It is a vintage dress form I found at an estate sale many years ago!  The vintage clothing came with it!  The skirt, top and jacket are a little tattered and worn but I love the look!

The pearls that Miss Lucy Louise is wearing came from estate and consignment sales.  That's one of my weaknesses...love the jewelry!!

Allow me to share more jewelry that I thought about using on the dress form but didn't!
(I know, silly me!)

This set was given to me by my aunt's best friend.  I was so thrilled to receive it even though at the time I really had no idea what it was!

My Eisenberg Jewelry has appreciated in value!  I wear the brooch often.  I've worn it on sweaters, scarves, hats, shirts...anywhere I can add a little bling!  I plan to pass the set down to the next fashion queen!!

"Eisenberg originally produced clothing at its beginning in 1914. Eisenberg began to market its jewelry around 1930. In 1958, Eisenberg began production of jewelry exclusively and abandoned its clothing line. In 1977, Eisenberg became a part of Berns-Friedman. Early Eisenberg jewelry was not marked. From late 1943 unitl mid 1948, the company used sterling silver. Sterling pieces are highly collectible, especially the figurals."

A Card, A Table, Roses and Paper

Valentine's Day celebration is a-comin'...
nothin' says love like a box of chocolates and a beautiful card...vintage card representing Whitney Candy Company...

No vintage cards here...(insert sad face) but I did want to do something special! Sooooo

In honor of the day I accepted the challenge to set a festive table again using paper products!  Earlier I created a tablescape using paper products to celebrate MARDI GRAS!  You may go to the link and read.

A trip to the Dollar Tree to pick up the necessary paper goods...

Then a quick stop by the grocery to grab a bunch of flowers...( because nothin' says love like roses!)

Now to work I go...

I decided to set up a dessert table for the hubby and I on the porch using my 1800s table we rescued from my great-grands' home...

Notice the square nails used...

For me to create using the paper products is fun and makes a festive table...

Just a Little Inspiration

In an earlier post that you can reread here Finding Inspiration can be found in all kinds of places!!  Even in a pile of old discarded lumber!

And if you've been reading my blog for very long y'all know I have a very handy hubby! 
                                   (Yes, Yes, I know I'm very lucky for more than one reason!!)
Anyway...the hubby took this pile of wood and worked his magic... 

That's right!  Not one but two, 2, 2, 2...(echo, echo!!) handcrafted tables! 

The hubby is always on the look out for old lumber to reuse for his projects.

This table will look great as a coffee table or even as a bench...

He used a special mixture (only he knows!)  of stains to achieve the color he wanted...

The second one is a tall  table...

He sealed the boards...

...still the rustic look...

Remember from a pile of discarded boards...

recycle, reuse, refinish...RECLAIM

Both of these tables are located at the shop...
