Lucious Pink, Randomness!

Can you believe it?  It is the end of the month for July?  Where did the summer go?  It has been a wonderful summer, even though we've had our fair share of hot, hot, hot temperatures!!  Families are winding down their  summer vacations and getting ready to start the new school year!  Remember in Alabama next weekend TAX FREE buying on school items in many cities!  Check this week to see all that are participating in this event!

I want to share with you just random pink lusciousness that my friend and me found down the junkin' road!  (As you can tell, I looooove pink!)

First up, while getting that perfect tan at the beach my friend and me stopped in at Lulu's! (remember she is Jimmy Buffet's crazy sista and owns a wonderful eatery in Gulf Shores!)

Then, the junkin road carried us to Dirt Cheap  (more about this awesome thrift in a later post completely devoted to this store)  and we found this adorable pink pig!!

I looooove stuffed animals! Always have!! And this one is an animated bank!  Now that's what I call a teaching moment for children to learn about saving money!  Cute, fun, thrifty!!

Next, I'm sending you roses, pink of course! I hope this will may your day a little happier!!

And, I'm leaving you with a beautiful sunset! One that turned the sky pink!  This is a view I've come to love!  It is so peaceful...just perfection!

Thrifty Yellow Chair

As a J-GRITS (junkin' girl raised in the south!) I am always on the look out for a deal, a bargain, a cheapy-freebie!!  My friend found such a fantastic deal recently!! Oh yeah, can you say FREE x 2!!

As the story goes someone did not want the hassle of restoring these two delightful girlies! They were pretty rickety...wobbly!  

Can you imagine?  It's like a sign was posted on these two...NOT WANTED!!

However in the minds of all good junkers...
This sad sap  :( , an unwanted little one, can change from this...

to an amazing that...

All it really takes is a little work!!  Yeah right!  Have you ever finished a project where it only required a little work??

After a really good scrubbing, sanding of the peeling layers,  (talkin'about several layers of paint now),  choosing just the right color...

(Notice the yellow dot!)

Painting began!  (and began, and began, and...several coats of paint! Primer then yellow! I know probably did not choose the correct paint but what can I say...it was FREE!!)

Results...A bright, fun color of yellow! So cheery! So inviting!!

Now the two pretty girlies are all dressed for the PAR-TAY... proudly sitting on the dock on the lake with no unwanted sign posted!!

My friend can enjoy a cup of coffee, watch the sun rise, read the morning news...all in the comfort of her new (FREE) yellow chairs!! Oh, by the way, did I mention the backs recline?  Now the hunt is on for a couple of footstools!!

On the Road to Bon Secour

Several weeks ago my friend and me found ourselves in Bon Secour, Alabama close by the beach in Gulf Shores! It is a lovely area full of history and known for its fishing and shrimping!

We've always wanted to visit the historic home of Swift-Coles but never arrived in time for the tours. And again we did not arrive promptly for a guided tour of the inside. However I did get beautiful photos of the outside and the grounds...

As with all older historic homes, this one has its fair share of stories...ghosts, hurricanes, and all!! Oh the stories, If These Walls Could Talk!!

The Tidewater Mansion was first built as a four-room house in 1882.  In 1908 all wings had been added completing the 16-room home we see today.  I love the Spanish moss draping from the trees...

The story goes that during a hurricane each adult tied themselves to one child, climbed the chinaberry tree located in the L-section of the home, and survived the raging storm and water that poured through the home!

The Swift descendants lived in the mansion until 1976 when Gulf Shores businessman Nick Coles bought and restored the home. Today visitors  can see his vast collection of antiques!

The grounds are being restored. You can view the gardens with the heritage plants and follow along the walkways that were once "swept walks"!   Before lawn mowers and hedge trimmers?!!
("I remember my grandmother telling as a young child sweeping the yard to keep out the grass blades", says my friend.)

The picket fence has been around for as long as the home.  Originally, it surrounded the house to keep grazing cattle out!

A beautiful home and next time I will arrive early to tour the inside!!
